About the Airport

Chicago O’Hare International Airport (IATA: ORD) is located on the Far Northwest Side of Chicago, Illinois, 16.5 miles (28 km) northwest of the Chicago Loop (The Loop is the central business district or downtown of Chicago). We could say that O’Hare is the international gateway to much of the American Midwest.

There is another airport serving the Chicago metropolitan area: Midway International Airport (MDW), about 10 miles (16 km) closer to the Loop.

This is one of the biggest airports in the world (is the sixth-busiest airport in the world by passenger traffic), serving more than 200 destinations, and it sometimes has frequents delays and cancellations. For this reason there are plenty of hotels in the O’Hare area.

O’Hare has 4 numbered passenger terminals with nine lettered concourses and a total of 182 gates. Terminals 1, 2 (that will be demolished soon), and 3 allow airside connections and Terminal 5 are separated from the other terminals by a set of taxiways that cross over the airport’s access road.
