The John Wayne Airport is general aviation and commercial airport serving Greater Los Angeles, Orange County, and California. It is located in the unincorporated area of Orange County and surrounded by several cities, including Costa Mesa, Irvine, and Newport Beach. It belongs to and is managed by Orange County. It was originally known as Orange County Airport, however, the Orange County Board of Trustees changed the name to the airport in 1979 as a tribute to actor John Wayne, who lived in Newport Beach and died in 1979. John Wayne’s statue was erected in 1982 at the airport terminal. It serves Orange County, Greater LA, and California.

Orange County has a reputation for tourism, and this is based on several beaches as well as theme parks. However, if you take a closer look, you’ll discover there’s an eclectic mix of cowboys, missions and even one or two bison.

You cannot be on tour of Orange County and not visit the Theme Parks as there is no shortage of theme parks in Orange County, and for all ages too. These include Disneyland, Adventure city, Knott Soak city, Disney California Adventure, Knotts Berry Farm, Medieval Times, Knotts Soak City, etc.

  • You can also take the ferry. You’d enjoy a ferry ride to Balboa Island. There are numerous Arts and free wine to sip every first Thursday of the month. Just ensure you are at the Laguna Beach art work.
  • Free Art and Wine: Browse galleries and enjoy free wine on the first Thursday of every month at Laguna Beach Art Walk.
  • Go on to rent a Duffy Boat: Take your friends on a cruise of Newport Beach. You are free to bring food and drinks onto the boat –no limitations.
  • Enjoy Shopping Malls, go shopping. In Orange County, shopping is taken seriously. Don’t miss shopping in the best stores in Costa Mesa –South Coast Plaza, while in Newport Beach, people love Fashion Island, Irvine Spectrum and in Orange, The Outlets.
  • While at the OC fair and even center, visit the Star Vu drive-in and enjoy a movie from behind your car’s backseat.

While California’s Orange County may be better known for Disneyland, there is much more to see, do and enjoy than just Disneyland. Orange County is more than just a suburb of Los Angeles – there is no shortage of beaches, the wonderful scenery of Southern California to the family attractions and shows and major sports events. This is the home of major cities as well as small coastal towns.

The best way to enjoy all this is by getting your Orange county rental car from the airport. As soon as your plane starts to descend, you start experiencing the excitement, Orange County is just so fun to be. Once you arrive, your getaway in this amazing city can begin while you discover all on the offering. However, you will not be getting the best out of Santa Ana if you don’t have a rental car. An automobile is required to have a feel and experience of every nook and cranny of the city, the best way to enjoy it is to be behind the driver seat yourself.

It doesn’t matter how you want to do your booking, online or over the counter, we have got you covered –although online booking remains the best, and reserves your chosen car.
