About Houston and its Sights
Houston has been named among the most culturally diverse cities in the United States.
That’s why you can hear up to 90 languages in different parts of the city. Now imagine the culinary scene, the local art and the cultural mix found here. Houston is always in constant evolution and that is why it is very interesting to visit it.
These are some of the essential activities to do in Houston:
Visit NASA Johnson Space Center
To visit this center is to take a trip out of this world into this educational and entertainment complex, learning the American history of space exploration. You can watch real astronauts train and even touch a moonstone. The various interactive simulations and exhibits give the visitor a feeling similar to that experienced by astronauts.
Visit the Kemah Boardwalk
From restaurants to waterfront entertainment with fairground games, the fun in the park doesn’t end. There are boat rides, you can also fly high and see the entire park from the Iron Eagle zip line. I couldn’t wait to get on the Boardwalk Bullet, an exciting, high-riding wooden roller coaster.
Shopping in Houston
Going shopping at The Galleria International Mall. Offering more than 375 shops, 30 restaurants, two hotels and an ice rink. Also well-known department stores, such as Macy’s, the largest department store chain in the United States. I was pampered by a Macy’s consultant who helped me choose the fashion that best suits me in a private room. And it was the best! On the first floor, I picked up a 10 percent off coupon from Macy’s in the Texas duty-free module where I later retrieved the taxes on my purchases, not just from Macy’s but from other stores in the Galleria as well. Both benefits are for international visitors only.
Visit the Houston Museum District
In the Houston Museum District area, there are more than 20 museums, galleries, and cultural centers all within walking distance of each other. During my visit to the Houston Museum of Natural Science, there were several schools with young children visiting at the same time, but the museum is so well organized that no one had difficulty moving from room to room. From ingenious demonstrations with the periodic table of the elements to a giant-screen theater, a planetarium, a butterfly farm and rooms with dozens of exhibits on astronomy, paleontology, energy and many more, a visit to this interesting museum is a must.
Among its diversity and an extensive list of attractions, there’s so much to do and see that you should be sure to visit Houston with enough days, and no doubt, with the peace of mind that a rental car will give you to visit it on your own.
